Layered Terrain System

I put together my latest terrain system to test out my newly painted Austrian Army. I've opted for the Battle of Caldiero, 1805 between French and Austrian forces.
Step 1 - Lay foam mat base on the fold-out wargame table
The vertices of the larger hexes are marked on the base to make locating of terrain easier.

Step 2 - Place hills and river banks.
These are taped down so they don't move when the mat is laid over the top. A hex-grid is marked on the hill sections to help align them to the base.

Step 3 - Lay Wargame Mat
The 70mm hex-gridded wargame mat is then laid over the top and aligned to the base hex grid. Everything lined up nicely.

Step 4 - Lay rivers between river banks

Step 5 - Place roads, trees, marsh, buildings and bushes.
The trees have pins in the base so they remain stable during play and also help pin the mat to the foam mat base. Everything's now ready for play!
